For full-time college students at accredited colleges or universities. High academic achievers in chemistry or the sciences. Must prove financial need.

Actuarial Diversity Scholarship
The Actuarial Diversity Scholarship promotes diversity through an annual scholarship program for Black/African American, Hispanic, Native North American and Pacific Islander students. The scholarship award recognizes and encourages the academic achievements of full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree that may lead to a career in the actuarial profession.

Ambassadorial Scholarships
This is the prestigious "rotary" organization scholarship for students who can speak another language and want to study abroad in the "host" country of that language. Award amounts are from $10,000 to $23,000 for a 3-month to full year of study abroad. You should have completed at least 2 years of college work.

American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA)
The Operation JumpStart (OJS) multicultural scholarship program was created to assist talented multicultural art direction and copywriting students with tuition to attend the following 4A’s-selected portfolio schools and colleges: Art Center College of Design at Pasadena, Creative Circus, Miami Ad School, Minneapolis College of Art & Design, Portfolio Center, Pratt Institute, and VCU Brandcenter.
The scholarship is underwritten by the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s) Foundation with contributions from member agencies. Scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 (dispersed in two annual installments) are awarded to students who exhibit extreme financial need and creative talent. American Dental Hygienists' Association Institute
Annual awards for full-time, minority (African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, and Males) undergraduate/graduate students currently under represented in the Dental Hygiene profession. Selection based on minimum 3.0 GPA, documented financial need of at least $1,500, and completion of a minimum of 1 full-time year in dental hygiene curriculum prior to receiving the award.

American Institute of Architects (AIA) Foundation
Annual award for undergraduate minority and/or disadvantaged students who are pursuing a career in architectural studies. Student must be accepted to a NAAB accredited architecture school and be renewed for a total of 3 years. In addition to the application, the student must submit a nomination.

American Institute of Architects Minority Disadvantaged Scholarship
This is a scholarship for minority students enrolling in architecture programs. Awards are from $500 to $3,000. Generally 20 students are selected. Deadline: December 6.

American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)/Minority
Annual award for a currently enrolled minority undergraduate student, with a minimum of 24 credits toward a degree the program starts, who wishes to study abroad at a selected university/college. Applications will be accepted from Pacific Islanders, African-, Asian-, Native-, and Hispanic-Americans. Selection is based on applicant's fulfillment of the program requirements, financial need, academic accomplishments, demonstrated leadership ability, extracurricular activities centered on multicultural/international issues, and a statement concerning objectives for wanting to study abroad.  In addition to the application, the student must submit the Minority Scholarship application, the AIFS academic year and semester application to AIFS College Division, including a 3rd letter of reference.  Award includes tuition, room and board, and round trip air fare.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Scholarships

American Library Association (ALA) Spectrum Initiative Scholarship program
MLA and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) jointly sponsor a scholarship through the American Library Association (ALA) Spectrum Initiative Scholarship program. The two organizations make a total annual donation of $5,000 each year to support minority students in their goals to become health sciences information professionals. American Respiratory Care Foundation
Annual awards for a minority undergraduate student who is enrolled in an AMA accredited respiratory care training program and has completed at least one semester of the program. A 3.0 GPA, birth certificate, visa or proof of citizenship, SS card, enrollment verification, 6 copies of an original referenced paper on respiratory care, official transcripts, and specific letters of recommendation are required. The Foundation prefers that nominations be made by the school/program, but any student may initiate a request of sponsorship by the school in order that a deserving candidate is not denied the opportunity to compete. Applications accepted from April 1 to June 30.  Previous winners are eligible to reapply.

Arts Recognition And Talent Search Awards  
These awards are granted to high school or college students (17, 18 years of age) who show talent in dance, voice, music, art, photography, jazz, visual arts, writing, or other creative areas. You must audition or submit a portfolio or tape. The award is to be used for freshman year in college. Award amounts from $100 to $3,000. Deadline: June 1 or April 1 (for registration in specific regions).

Dr. Harry Britenstool Scholarship Fund

Hallie Q. Brown Scholarship Fund

Ron Brown Scholarships  
The award: 10,000 for 10 to 20 students. It's renewable. Academic merit, leadership, community service, all fields. The deadline is usually in January. This is one of most prestigious scholarships and it's very, very competitive. Details at site.

Lena Chang Scholarship Awards
The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation awards two annual scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each to ethnic minority students currently enrolled in college.

The Campaign for College Opportunity's "Save Me a Spot in College" Scholarship Contest

CIA/Undergraduate Scholarships
Annually awarded scholarship is for minority or disabled college freshman with a 3.0 GPA.  Applicants must be majoring in one or more of the following: physics, computer science, engineering, economics, mathematics, imagery science, cartography, Japanese, Russian, or Chinese.  Recipients will gain a summer job at the Central Intelligence Agency.  Full tuition, up to $10,000, is paid and summer job pays competitive rates.

Civil Rights Summer
For rising sophomores and juniors in college. Fellowship includes a week of academic study and leadership training at Harvard University followed by a seven-week internship in Washington, D.C. at one of several policy-shaping national organizations. Charles and Karen Couric Scholarships / Duke University
Beginning Fall 2012, scholarships, guaranteed to replace any loans included in the student's aid award, will be awarded to all A Better Chance Scholars accepted for admission to Duke. The total loan replacement could exceed $22,000 over four years. The Charles and Karen Couric Scholarships will make it possible for all A Better Chance students at Duke to graduate debt-free.

Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship 

The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund/Business Reporting Internship
Summer internships offered only to full-time minority college sophomores, who are U.S. citizens, to work at daily newspapers as business reporters.  Interns will attend a pre-internship training program before beginning work.  Interns are paid regular wages from the newspapers for which they work and a $1,000 scholarship, payable to the students' colleges or universities, will be awarded at the successful completion of the summer of work. Drexel University’s A Better Chance Scholarship
Drexel University will award a $10,000 scholarship to each incoming freshman that is a graduate from A Better Chance.  As A Better Chance Scholars, incoming freshman will receive an academic scholarship in the amount of $10,000 toward the annual tuition charge, based upon completing the admissions process by January 15, acceptance, and enrollment for the coming academic year at Drexel University.  The students will continue to receive this amount for each year of their undergraduate degree program as long as they maintain full-time enrollment at Drexel, and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at the end of each year.
The Drexel University A Better Chance scholarship is for annual tuition charges only.    It is not applied to room and board, annual fees, or partial tuition rates.
The amount of the A Better Chance Scholarship will become a part of the total financial aid package.   Students will still be considered for other aid. If the student files the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the eligibility for need-based aid programs will also be reviewed.

Duracell/NSTA Scholarship Contest

Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority Inc.
As the first major undertaking of Project H.A.C.E.R. (Hermanas for the Advancement of Career and Educational Resources), Young Scholars with FLAVA! aims to bridge the "digital divide" by providing young adults of color with personal computers and software to increase access to and awareness of the World Wide Web.  High school seniors and first year college students are asked to answer an essay on how technology can add "Flava" to their community. Of all entries received, five winners will receive a personal computer and software courtesy of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. and LatinFlava.com.

Taylor Michaels Scholarship Fund
The Taylor Michaels Scholarship Fund, a program of the Magic Johnson Foundation, is designed to provide support for deserving inner-city high school students who demonstrate a strong potential for academic achievement but face socioeconomic conditions that hinder them from achieving that potential. Since its inception in 1998, the fund, which has several components (e.g., a mentoring program, an internship program, and Life and Practical Skills Seminars), has provided 83 students with financial assistance to attend the college or university of their choice.
Applicants must meet the following criteria: be a senior in high school with plans to attend a four-year college or university; have at least a 2.5 GPA; and be a resident of Atlanta, Cleveland, Houston, Los Angeles, or New York. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of (1) a written essay, (2) cumulative grade point average (2.5 and above), and (3) financial need as determined by the Magic Johnson Foundation.

National Alliance for Excellence Scholarships
The student competitors can be seniors or already in college. They must submit an application that can include recommendations (academics), art (slides), dance (tapes), photographs, or other materials that point to talent and achievement in all areas. The awards are for a minimum of one year, and over 100 are granted. Applications can be submitted at any time. The selection process is ongoing.

Nordstrom is excited to award $10,000 scholarships (paid out in equal installments of $2,500 over four years to the college of their choice) to 80 outstanding high school students and help them achieve their dreams of going to college. Society of Women Engineers Scholarships
These scholarships are targeted for women who are majoring in engineering or computer science. Award amount are from $200 to $5,000, and at least 90 are granted. Deadline: February 1.

Southern Newspaper Publishers Association
Annual awards for minority freshman who are pursuing a career in journalism, advertising, business, accounting, or related field. In addition to the application, student must submit, to the newspaper, a black and white photo, 500-word essay, 3 letters of recommendation (one each from the publisher, student's high school principal, and guidance counselor), letter of acceptance from any 4-year college, a copy of the student's ACT/SAT scores, and the student's CGPA. Students must be nominated by members of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. APPLICATION NOT ACCEPTED DIRECTLY FROM STUDENTS OR COLLEGES. Student Incentive Grant

ThinkQuest Internet Challenge
International program for students ages 12 through 19 that encourages them to use the Internet to create Web-based educational tools and materials. Awards are handed out in five categories. To participate you must be an elementary or secondary school student who is not enrolled full time in an institution of higher education. The competition is done as a team with one or two other students and one to three coaches who are teachers or mentors. Deadline: May 1. Amount: $100-$25,000.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship
The is one of the most prestigious scholarships, shaped for students who intend to pursue a career targeted to public service or government. Graduate study should be a goal, with a portion of the funds directed there. You must be at least a junior, and your college must nominate you. A "nomination" package must be created. The awards can reach as high as $30,000 over the years. Generally about 80 students are selected. Deadline: February 1.

UNA-USA National High School Essay Contest
Open to students in grades 9-12. You must submit an essay on a theme selected by the sponsor. Deadline: April 14.  Amount: $500-$1,000.

Annual awards for outstanding minority and exceptional non-minority college students, with 2-3 years remaining in education. A non-minority student must major in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Meteorology, Math, Electrical Engineering, Nursing or Physics. Minority students may study any Bachelor Degree program. Student must be between 17-25 years old as of June 30th of the year of graduation (prior active duty can extend age limit to 29). U.S. Navy ROTC Scholarship to attend an HBCU
This is a "hip pocket scholarship."  It includes tuition, fees, books, uniforms and $150.00 a month stipend. If a student attends Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) on a ROTC Scholarship, the University will give that student a Room and Board Scholarship. Requirements: 1050 on the SAT or 22 on the ACT and a 3.0 high school GPA.  Other schools offering this scholarship: Hampton, Morehouse, Southern, Prairie View, Savannah State and Norfolk State.
