A Better Chance was selected by O, The Oprah Magazine to benefit from a walk celebrating the publication’s 10th anniversary. The walk was a fundraiser, and Oprah Winfrey and the editors of her magazine chose ten charities to benefit from the event. On Sunday, May 9, 2010, more than 15,000 people participated in the “Live Your Best Life” Walk in Manhattan.
Thanks to the supporters of A Better Chance, we raised close to $85,000 from the Walk. These much-needed funds will help us place nearly 500 young people of color in over 300 Member Schools across the country, and support about 1,900 currently-enrolled Scholars in the program.
The “Live Your Best Life” Walk may be over, but there are still ways for friends of A Better Chance to stay involved throughout the year:
Join our Facebook Causes Page and invite your friends to do the same. Click here to access the page.
Application season kicks off in late summer, and you can help us identify and recruit talented young people of color who’d benefit from the A Better Chance experience by referring student applicants to us online. Application information and eligibility requirements are available on our website on August 2nd.
Experience firsthand the work of A Better Chance by volunteering at one of our Interview Days in the fall. We hold Interview Days in Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Help us interview thousands of prospective A Better Chance Scholars from across the country and learn more about this rewarding process that our students undergo.
Finally, you can make a gift to A Better Chance online by visiting our website and clicking on Donate. Your contribution will help open the door to educational opportunities for bright young people of color all seeking their better chance today.
