Since 1963, A Better Chance has empowered youth of color to access a superior education by offering them opportunities they could not otherwise access. We invest heavily in our Scholars because we believe in their extraordinary potential, and our country has been richly rewarded by their success.
However, A Better Chance President Sandra E. Timmons asserts, “there is still much more work to be done. There are still large gaps in achievement, leadership, and economic mobility among people of color.”
To address these gaps A Better Chance is launching a transformative plan for growth that will contribute to creating a self-sustaining pipeline of future leaders. At The 50th Anniversary A Better Chance Awards National Board of Directors Chair Ron Pressman announced A Better Chance’s vision for the future: “A Better Chance can, and will be, a primary leadership pipeline that helps set our society up for success for decades to come.”
A Better Chance’s plan for growth centers on three primary objectives:
EXPAND: Create more future leaders of color by growing the number of Scholars, Member Schools, and key programs
SUPPORT: Deepen Scholar support during the transition from high school to college through increased enrollment in our College Tours program, a dedicated SAT prep program, and a signature mentorship program
SUSTAIN: Create an Alumni network and grow our endowment
