Better Chance

Thank you for your interest in helping A Better Chance in its mission to provide more educational opportunities to academically talented young people of color. A great deal of hard work and dedication goes into making A Better Chance a continued success.  We could not do it without the active participation of our alumni, parents and friends.  Through the donation of your time and energy, the A Better Chance community is strengthened and solidified.  Our working together helps provide another Scholar the opportunity to achieve his or her dreams.

Interview Days

During September and October, thousands of prospective A Better Chance Scholars are interviewed across the country. The interview is an intense yet rewarding experience for the young students, and the participation of friends, alumni and parents make it an exciting event.

Morgan Stanley Career and Workforce Skills Development Workshops

In August and September, A Better Chance coordinates Career and Workforce Skills Development Workshops sponsored by Morgan Stanley for Scholars across the country. In 2011, over 250 Scholars gained professional skills through a range of activities that focused on networking, making memorable first impressions, resume writing, and interview skills. The workshops incorporated panel discussions where presenters, most of whom were A Better Chance Alumni, relayed how they became professionals in their respective fields.  Afterwards, Scholars met with the presenters individually to get more detailed information about career development.  Pairing Alumni as presenters with Scholars offered an invaluable opportunity for Scholars to meet role models and realize that they too can ascend to great professional heights.

The Career and Workforce Skills Development Workshops generally take place in the following cities during the summer and fall seasons: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Boston.

If you are interested in participating as a panelist, please submit a recent professional bio or resume to events@abetterchance.org with the subject line "Career Panel"  for consideration. Please note that Alumni volunteers are given first priority.

Host an Event to Benefit A Better Chance

Event planning is a great way to support the organization. Whether you are an Alumnus who would like to organize a mixer for A Better Chance Alumni in your region or a friend who is interested in hosting an event to raise awareness and funds for our programming, please start by consulting the A Better Chance Event Planning Tool Kit. In the tool kit you will find a welcome letter, fundraising guidelines and principles, and an event planning application.

If you have questions about the tool kit, or would like to discuss your event further with a staff member before applying, please e-mail at events@abetterchance.org with the subject line "Event Planning."

Please review the Event Planning Tool Kit before you contact us with questions to see if your event is consistent with A Better Chance's mission and public image.
