Nicole Bouknight Johnson
In her role as Director of Development for the non-profit A Better Chance, which she has held since 2014, Nicole plans, implements, and directs a diverse fundraising program that ensures the success and sustainability of the organization. As a young girl, Nicole realized the power and importance of education, and her lifelong mission is to open up the door of educational opportunity for children of all backgrounds. She's proud and honored that her daily work with A Better Chance translates directly into a strong bottom line for the organization; into dollars and cents that make an invaluable, transformative difference in the lives and futures of deserving children of color.
Nicole has 15+ years' experience in annual, major, and principal gift fundraising, spanning the nonprofit, education and business sectors. A self-starting entrepreneur as well as a proven development leader, in 2004, Nicole launched a professional staging and interior decorating company that grew from a part-time venture to a leading real-estate services provider in the New York City metro area. Nicole is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and of Board Source, whose mission is to inspire and support excellence in nonprofit governance and board and staff leadership. She's also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., joining her fellow sisters in their commitment to the development of its members and to public service with a focus on the black community.
Nicole considers it her responsibility to routinely educate people about career opportunities in philanthropy, and speaks about the fundraising profession to school-aged children. She's also a member of Mocha Moms, a national organization that advocates for mothers of color and encourages the spirit of community activism within its membership.
