A Better Chance and Xerox Launch Initiative to
Advance Diversity and Inclusion in STEM Careers
Initiative will create exposure to STEM career pathways, internships and jobs
for A Better Chance Scholars and Alumni
NEW YORK, NY (November 17, 2020) – A Better Chance announced a new three-year program with Xerox Holdings Corporation to develop a pipeline of talented students of color pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). A Better Chance Scholars and Alumni will have the opportunity to receive professional coaching by Xerox employees. Additionally, Xerox will provide annual internship opportunities that help create a pathway to entry-level positions with the company.
“Xerox has a long record of diversity and inclusion and recently updated our roadmap to increase these efforts,” said John Visentin, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Xerox. “Expanding our partnership with A Better Chance allows us to combine the best of both organizations – our people – to ensure these talented men and women reach their fullest potential.”
This initiative will allow A Better Chance to strengthen its post-secondary programs and services for its Scholars and Alumni in a field that underserves communities of color. According to recent research, Black and Latinx employees make up only 9% and 7%, respectively, of all STEM workers in the U.S.
“Thank you to Xerox for their continued support in helping A Better Chance develop a new generation of leaders,” said Francisco Tezén, President and CEO of A Better Chance. “At a time when Black and Latinx communities are significantly underrepresented in STEM roles, this funding will help A Better Chance raise awareness of these career possibilities among its Scholars in middle school and high school. Building upon increased awareness of STEM pathways, the partnership will also provide opportunities for our college-age Alumni through internships and jobs upon graduation.”
