NEW YORK, NY (February 13, 2020) – A Better Chance, a national nonprofit organization that recruits academically talented and motivated students of color and guides them toward a variety of educational and leadership opportunities announced the election of Allison Lawrence and Star McDade to its National Board.  “We look forward to working with Allison and Star. Their expertise and counsel will bring unique capabilities and perspectives onto the board that will help A Better Chance further its mission to build the future pipeline of diverse leaders,” said President and CEO Francisco Tezén.


 Allison Lawrence is currently the VP Staff Executive at Stanley Black and Decker, reporting directly to CEO Jim Loree.  In this role, Allison helps facilitate and enable the development, deployment and advancement of Stanley Black & Decker corporate strategic initiatives, working collaboratively with the Executive Team to support the alignment and execution of a broad range of internal initiatives and external engagements.  Allison brings a foundation of expertise to the SBD Executive Team from her nearly 17 years of leadership experience in roles in brand and channel marketing, U.S. retail sales and eCommerce.  Allison joined Stanley Black & Decker after earning her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Oklahoma State University, and she later earned her MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas.


Star McDade, CPA is currently the Vice President and Portfolio General Audit at American Express.  Star is a multi-disciplined financial services professional with strong personal values and a diversity of experience that helps shape her perspective.  She is currently responsible for directing internal audit activities for the global commercial services and the global merchant/network services businesses, as well as for various oversight functions, including operational risk management, global privacy and enterprise data governance and big data.  Prior to joining American Express, Star provided audit and advisory services to hedge fund, private equity, mutual fund and government investment pool clients at PwC in Houston and New York City.  She earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration degree with concentrations in Accounting and Finance from Hampton University.
