A Better Chance Names New Board Member and National Advisory Council Chair
New York, NY (January 13, 2020): A Better Chance has appointed Gerald Keefe, Head of Global Banking for the Americas at HSBC, to its National Board of Directors and Alumna Nicole Melwood ’01, as chair of the National Advisory Council (NAC). The NAC is a group of devoted A Better Chance Alumni and volunteers dedicated to helping the organization carry out its mission to foster diverse leaders capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in our society. “I am excited to announce the appointments of both Gerald and Nicole to the National Board of Directors and National Advisory Council respectively,” said Francisco Tezén, President & CEO of A Better Chance. “Their leadership and expertise will be valuable in helping us continue our work creating opportunities for students of color.”
Gerald “Gerry” Keefe will lead HSBC’s investment bank as the Head of Global Banking for the Americas beginning in January 2021. Prior to the announcement of his new appointment, Keefe served as the Global Head of Corporate and Public Sector Sales for Citi’s treasury and trade solutions team. Gerald joined Citi in 2006 and moved to Hong Kong in 2016 to take up a newly created role that gave him an oversight of corporate banking business covering financial institutions, public sector clients, and multinational firms in the region. Before that, he was head of the U.S. bank’s corporate banking division in Japan. Gerald is a graduate of Tulane University.
Nicole Melwood is a Director and member of the Commonfund Asset Management Sales and Service team with a focus on business development. She is responsible for the development of outsourced CIO solutions across endowments, foundations, healthcare organizations and other nonprofits. Prior to joining Commonfund, she worked at Everstrong Capital, where she led business development in the U.S. and Investec Asset Management, where she was a member of the western U.S. institutional sales team. Nicole started her career at JPMorgan Asset Management, where she was a client portfolio manager on the Global Fixed Income and Currency team.
Nicole is an A Better Chance Alumna, graduating from Northfield Mount Hermon School. She holds a B.A. in Government from Wesleyan University and an M.B.A from Duke University, The Fuqua School of Business, where she was a Robert Toigo Fellow. Nicole is currently on the Executive Committee for DukeNY Women’s Forum and now chairs the National Advisory Committee for A Better Chance, Inc.
