There are many benefits to being a Scholar, most of which are communicated exclusively to Scholars and their families.
The below overview, however, might help you understand some of the doors A Better Chance can help its Scholars walk through.
When a candidate has signed contract to enroll at a Member School, he/she becomes a Scholar of our Program and is expected to attend a regional orientation with other new Scholars of A Better Chance. The summer prior to matriculation, new Scholars are invited to an A Better Chance Orientation where they learn strategies and engage in meaningful discussion on how to successfully navigate through the challenges they may face at their Member School, on both the academic and social level.
Scholars in the 11th and 12th grade are given the unique opportunity to act as mentors and provide guidance to new Scholars at the New Scholar Orientation. Each Scholar is submits and application and is selected based on leadership ability and model behavior both within and outside of their school community. They receive training from A Better Chance staff and facilitate workshops geared to help ne Scholars learn to navigate their new school environments and address their concerns with current Scholars and A Better Chance staff.
Each year, A Better Chance provides current scholars with a special opportunity to showcase their achievements and involvement both within and outside of their member school environment. We recognize their accomplishments through both recognition as a speaker at our annual awards luncheon and monetary rewards of up to $5,000.
