COVID-19 Update

On behalf of the entire A Better Chance family, we hope each of you is safe and healthy during this trying time. As COVID-19 continues to change the daily realities we all face, we are committed to furthering our shared vision of a world where talented students of color have access to the competitive education they deserve. While this ongoing crisis and the turmoil it generates have no visible end date, A Better Chance will continue to provide educational opportunities to talented students of color nationwide. The retention of all of the 2,206 Scholars we serve is our top priority and with your support, we can prevent attrition to this group of future leaders of color. Please continue to check below for updates from A Better Chance.

April 13, 2020
A Better Chance reached out to our Scholars, Cohort and parents to evaluate necessary services for our families during this crisis.  We surveyed our families to determine their most pressing needs to ensure the retention of our Scholars in Member Schools nationwide. These preliminary results identified the areas where our families are looking to A Better Chance for guidance and support. We aim to leverage our position and experience to assist families with financial aid inquiries and summer enrichment resources for students.

To ensure the next class of A Better Chance Scholars proceeds as expected, we will provide online benchmark testing for our applicants. Traditionally offered in-person, we will transition to remote testing to ensure the health and safety of all prospective A Better Chance families. This will be accomplished through Test Innovators, a longtime partner of A Better Chance. The conversion to online testing is essential to converting applicants to Scholars. By testing now, we can stay on track to deliver the next class of A Better Chance Scholars. As we near our transformative summer programming, we will continue to modify our services to serve our students online.

A Better Chance must make critical adjustments to remotely deliver our programming, while still fully supporting and addressing their needs. We are in the process of identifying potential partners and investing in new and enhanced resources that can help us create and deliver our programming online while investing in the technology necessary to accomplish these tasks.

A Better Chance needs your help to ensure we are able to keep the pathways to educational opportunity open for the 2,206 Scholars currently enrolled in Member Schools nationwide. When set, our plan will strengthen and enhance the core programming A Better Chance offers to talented students of color for generations. With your investment, we can secure the present and future of A Better Chance and continue to foster the talented leaders of color our world requires.
